do nothing
A few of your fellow prisoners do what they are told, but most of you stay put, glaring at the monsters. One of them, possibly their chief sees this and laughs. Then he slams the door back down. The truck begins to rumble away again. When the door next open, things dont go so well. A dozen big mutants, start yanking you out, hitting you with clubs and electric cattle prods if you resist. The shove you all down in giant hole in the ground. You cut your hands and knees open landing in the rubble.
"Welcome to the Bogey King's Mines!" one of the roars with laughter.
You are shackled, beaten, and carry rocks. You don't know how far underground you are, but you everyday, over and over you struggle up the same weary tunnel to dump you load of concrete, then back again to the subterranean pit, where some kind of machine is hauling them up. You have no idea what the purpose of your work is.
There are a few other human prisoners doing this work, but mainly you are surrounded by Bogeys- pale, scrawny, bat eared creatures that only squawk mindlessly instead of speaking. These are doing the same work as you and the other human captives. There are other Bogeys, smarter ones who are in charge, who do speak- to give orders and threats. They sort through the garbage you bring up and sometimes keep things. They also distribute your meager rations. Canned tuna fish. Breakfast lunch and dinner. Every. Single. Day.Very quickly, you start to hate tuna fish. You sleep in the dark of the caves, living only by torch light.
Life is awful.
You lose track of how long you have been trapped here.
Then one day the supervisors all get together, conferring among themselves. You catch a few phrases:
"Today's the day alright! The Kaa will be here by day break"
"Get the best of the pickings ready!"
"That's alot of swag boss! Whose gonna keep an eye on this end of things?"
"Never mind that, these grubs arent going anywhere. It's trading time!"
"Why dont we grab one or two of these maggots to carry some of the loot out?"
"Good idea. Do it!"
Judging by thier body language, something important is going to happen today, outside of the mine. And your slavedriving owners are going to need someone to carry a load of something or other OUTSIDE. If you volunteer, you might get to see the sun. The thought brings a tiny ray of hope into your exhausted mind. And this sparks another hopeful thought. If you can get outside, under the real sky, you might, just maybe, be able to find away to escape this horrible existence.
And now your brain really kicks into gear. They also said they were going to leave the pit unattended. All the bosses are going UP the mine. Meaning the bottom end of the mine will be unguarded. You've never had a real look down the pit where your rubble is hauled up from. But maybe there is a way out down there!
This may be your only chance to escape. You have to try. Do you volunteer to go with all the guards to the top of the mine, carrying whatever it is for them? Click here if you do.
Or do you wait until you are unsupervised and take your chances going down the unguarded end of the mine?
